Soccer is by far the most popular sport in the world. However, America has never really been sold on soccer, ever. But why is that? Here's what I think. This may sound harsh, but soccer started out (and still is) a poor man's sport. All you need is a large open field with goals and a ball. It can be played with no shoes, no shin guards and no net for the goals. This is the exact reason it is so damn popular around the world. Almost all of Africa lives in poverty so this is the perfect sport for them. Its cheap, fun, and passes the time.
This is the exact reason why many Americans dislike playing or watching soccer. We feel like anyone can play and be good at the sport. As for watching it on TV or in person, I think many Americans would rather watch paint dry or grass grow before watching a game. Soccer is extremely slow paced and lacks exciting moments. In my opinion, soccer will never become mainstream in America. Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey are sports that most Americans would watch before soccer.
As for the rest of the world, you can continue to play soccer, we don't care.
